Care For Peace

WHO WE ARE

our story

It all began in July, 2012 with just one partner – Dr. Than Sein – who responded to a letter sent from Jeff Hardy to then President Thein Sein and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, that offered Care for Peace participation in the development of the National Healthcare System.  Dr. Than Sein came to California, toured several health care facilities with Jeff, and met Linda Tavaszi, Chief Executive Officer of the Marin Community Clinics and Founding Board Member of Care for Peace.

On July 20th, Dr. Than Sein, U Hla Kyi, Linda Tavaszi and Jeff agreed that they would set up two foundations – one in Myanmar and one in the USA.  The result: the Myanmar-based People’s Health Foundation, and the USA-based Care for Peace nonprofit organization.

The rest is history-in-the-making!  Care for Peace celebrated our shared successes with our partners at a Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Collaboration Ceremony in Yangon on November 24, 2014.

our partnerships

Myanmar is a “new country” in the eyes of the world, but is a young democracy just getting started in developing governing mechanisms and the rule of law that will allow free trade between foreign countries.  Since August 2012, the C4P “process mission” has been to develop long-term relationships and firm agreements.  In that regard, the following are our current agreements with our Care for Peace partners in Myanmar:

MINISTRY OF HEALTH

Cooperative Agreement with Ministry of Health, H.E. Pe Thet Khin, Minister

Our agreement: to work with our in-country partners for collaboratively developing the prototype ‘Healthy Village’ Signed: October 10, 2012

PEOPLE’S HEALTH FOUNDATION

Memorandum of Understanding with the People’s Health Foundation, Dr. Than Sein, President
Our agreement: to collaboratively design, build, manage and maintain the Community Health Centers and Micro-Enterprise Systems, with an estimated total of 250 such institutions throughout rural Myanmar. Signed: May 23, 2014

RAKHINE THAHAYA ASSOCIATION

Memorandum of Understanding with the Rakhine Thahaya Association, U Hla Maung Thein, President
Our Agreement: to work together to collaboratively develop 25 such institutions throughout Rakhine State. Signed: November 23, 2014
Memorandum of Collaboration with the People’s Health Foundation and the Rakhine Thahaya Association
Our Agreement: to collaboratively work towards the implementation of patient identification and patient records such that there will be “NO Hidden Patient Anywhere in Myanmar by Year 2030” Signed: November 23, 2014
